Healthy Living: Detox Time

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

At the end of January I decided to go on a two week detox. I will be the first to admit that my diet is absolutely horrendous. It is something that I have wanted to fix but never knew where to start. I am the world's pickiest eater. I really wish I could eat better but I get easily grossed out by textures of foods so eating healthy can be a struggle. I could live off of bread and cheese for the rest of my life but unfortunately that is not an ideal diet.

It wasn't until recently when I realized I needed to make a change in my diet. I decided to go on a cleanse because in the past I tried slowly introducing vegetables into my diet but it was never successful. I figured the only way I could get results was to limit myself to a really strict diet.

During the two week detox I eliminated dairy, wheat, gluten, caffeine, sugar and reduced my intake of processed foods. I'd be lying if I said it was easy. In fact it was very difficult (I nearly quit... a few times). My mom and sister also did the detox with me which made it a bit easier to get through.

Although I couldn't wait to eat bread and chocolate, I learned how much I enjoyed eating healthier foods. It definitely took a few days to get used to but later on in the first week I started to feel really good. I had more energy my complexion improved and I felt better about myself. Over the course of the two weeks I was also able to lose seven pounds.

The cleanse wasn't about losing weight for me but instead finding alternative foods that I enjoyed instead always picking the unhealthy option. I also did the cleanse because I wanted to prove to myself I could do it. The cleanse taught me portion control and the importance of moderation.

Have you ever done a detox before?
