The Art of the Multipurpose Outfit

Lately, I’ve been creating outfits that serve many different purposes. Recently, I took a half day off work to attend the Tadashi Spring 2019 Collection at Spring Studios. I cut the timing pretty close, so I didn’t have room to change from what I wore to work that day into something else. When deciding what to wear, I needed to be work appropriate, comfortable, but also stylish enough for fashion week. Add in the fact that it was a particularly hot day in September deciding what to wear was more difficult than anticipated.

Earlier in the week while killing time in my favorite store, & Other Stories, I found these awesome black dress pants. They’re cropped, wide-legged, and super high waisted (aka exactly what I was looking for). The pants were also insanely comfortable and paired perfectly with my trustworthy Madewell short sleeve blouse. I put on a pair of short, black heeled sandals and the outfit was complete.

To be a little more daring, I added a still lip tint to the mix. I always want to wear a lip color, but I typically chicken out and settle on chapstick. Fashion week felt like the perfect opportunity to finally put my matte lip gloss to good use. My outfit was a combination of classy and effortless while working for both the office and an event.

With all there is to do in New York, I often find myself running from one thing to another and I can’t be bothered to bring a change of clothes, so I need something that works for everything. While it takes a bit more strategy, it’s also rewarding. It’s a total confidence boost knowing you created the perfect outfit for more than one occasion.

How do you style outfits for multiple needs?
