Month of Meal Prep
For the month of January, I challenged myself to stop eating out. This is something I've wanted to do for a while to not only improve my diet but also save money. It's so easy to get into the habit of constantly grabbing meals on the go and I found that I waste so much money on food. This was caused by laziness; I would get home late and end up having food delivered. Which was an expensive, unhealthy, and unsatisfactory option.
Overall, this challenge was difficult. I allowed myself to have a coffee a day (a necessity to get through my work schedule) but didn't buy any other food besides my weekly Trader Joe's grocery trip. In the beginning, I was overwhelmed because I had to pack multiple meals at once but as soon as I figured how much food I needed, it became less daunting. Each week, I would plan out my meals before heading to the grocery store and each night I would plan my breakfast and lunch. For dinner, I would make bigger portions so that I could ration them out throughout the week.
The month of meal prep helped me save money, eat healthier, and plan better. I'll always be a lover of trying new foods and restaurants but I hope to continue the good habits that came from this month.
I challenge you to try this, you'll be surprised at the creativity that comes out of planing ahead and your wallet will thank you. I firmly believe it's so worth it.
