10 Holiday Things to do in New York City

Here is my list of holiday activities to do while in New York City! It's no secret NYC goes all out for the holidays and I'm lucky enough to experience all the magic!

See New York City Ballet's Nutcracker

When I was younger my parents took me to a dress rehearsal of Boston Ballet's Nutcracker and from then on I was hooked. As a dancer, I would spend the beginning of every holiday season performing the ballet with my studio so everything about the Nutcracker reminds me of Christmas and the holiday season. While I've seen other productions, it's been a dream of mine to see the New York City ballet perform to Tchaikovsky's famous score. They are one of my favorite ballet companies and it's been on my bucket list to see them perform the Nutcracker.

Walk around the tree in Rockefeller Center

You must see the Rockefeller tree; it's pure size and beauty is unlike anything you'll find anywhere else. While in college, I went to the tree lighting and it was an experience. My advice? Go after the tree lighting to avoid the crowds and definitely see it at night.

Ice Skate at Bryant Park

Skate for as long as you want and for free at Bryant Park. Unlike skating at Rockefeller, where you have to pay and only get 5 minutes on the ice, you only have to pay to rent skates at Bryant. While there, enjoy delicious spiked cider inside Public Fare, explore the Christmas village, and gaze at the beautifully lit tree.

Visit Macy's at Herald Square

See the famous, sparkly "Believe". Wander through the decked out halls and finally drop off your Christmas list to Santa. The whole store is immaculately decorated and you'll find something to look at around every corner.

Sip Hot Chocolate at City Bakery

City Bakery has the BEST hot chocolate. Their giant homemade marshmallows are paired with hot chocolate that is incredibly rich and creamy and it will make your mouth water.

Dine at Rolph's

Rolph's German Restaurant has insane holiday decorations that are sure to get you in the spirit. Stop in for dinner and enjoy traditional German food and a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Stroll through Union Square Christmas Market

Enjoy some tasty treats and pick up handmade holiday gifts for friends and family.

Attend the Radio City Rockettes

Everyone must see the Rockettes at least once. Not only does the Christmas Spectacular take you through a world of holiday fun, the Rockettes dance with such precision and grace that you become mesmerized.

View Saks 5th Ave Window Displays

Every year, Saks out does itself with their holiday window displays and this year is no exception. Inspired by Snow White and accompanied with a light show at night, the windows are stunning and well worth stopping by.

Enjoy Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity 3

Drink a late night frozen hot chocolate and take in the atmosphere of Serendipity 3. Not only do they do a great job at decorating for the holidays but their goblet-sized frozen hot chocolate is legendary. Make sure you make a reservation though, they are slammed during the holiday season.

What are your favorite holiday activities?
