The Minimalist Closet of Sara Berman

The Minimalist Closet of Sara Berman

While on the job hunt I'm trying to put down my laptop, take a step back from my applications, and explore all that New York City has to offer. Recently, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see Sara Berman's closet. Sara Berman was an immigrant who moved to New York and kept a meticulous closet.

Her closet was minimalistic and monochromatic; she only chose to wear white. Even though I tend to wear all black, I felt inspired by Berman's choices: everything had a place and there was no excess. The simplicity made me reflect on my own closet.

Since moving to New York and living in a small apartment, it has been a goal of mine to try to adapt a more minimalist lifestyle. I've been weeding through my clothes and donating pieces that I don't wear. Though it's a slow process, I have been trying to be more mindful of what I actually need when I'm shopping. For items i'm not donating, I'm in the process of making a Poshmark account to start selling my clothes that I no longer wear (stay tuned).

My Closet

It's still a work in progress as I'm finishing the final touches on my room (a full room post coming soon) but here is what my closet looks like. Keeping my clothes neat and orderly helps me see what I have, what I need and what I can do without.

In the coming months, be on the lookout for more detailed posts about my closet, how I choose to organize, and what to look for while shopping.

I would love to hear your thoughts!
